There are many variations of haejangguk, and yes, they are different from gamjatang, which are made with pork bones and potato. I have a gamjatang recipe on the blog. Hope you check it out. Thank you so much for your readership!

Is there a difference between haejangguk and gamjatang? When I lived in Seoul for a year, I ate it quite often and loved how hearty it was. Would love a recipe and a bit of history on it if you’d be so kind. Thank you for the wonderful additions to our kitchen!

Hello HyoSun
Thank you for sharing your Korea Travel experience. If you have additional list of places to visit please share. My husband and I are planning a trip to Korea in the coming new year. I’m a Korean-American came to USA 1973 after the graduation of Ewa university. I enjoy cooking for my family and friends. I’m known for the fusion style of two Eastern and Western food tastes. My grown children often remark that the Korean influenced dishes at the high-end restaurants remind them of their mother’s table. I’m glad to find your site and plan to continue to learn from you. Thank you!

This is probably the place that you are looking for in Korea. Gyeongsangnam-do, South Korea. A lot of the spellings seem to have changed. This happened in my m9ms birth certificate from 1933. The spelling was completely different than what it is now.

Korea is one country I’d like to stay in for at least a month just to savor such culture. And your website is such a great reference for my bucket list going there.
Continue on and God bless.

I am a Korean adoptee and have never been back to Korea. I am hoping I can make the trip soon. Aside from the amazing food photos you took, I love looking at your photos of the beautiful Fall season in Korea. My adoption papers state that I am from the Kyangsangnam-do area. I am not sure where that is but I hope to visit in the near future and possibly locate my birth mother. Thanks again so much for posting this!
